Vyas Exim sources Cardamom from Kerala, a southern state of India is the main producer of cardamom in India and contributes around 60% of total Indian production with other states being Sikkim as the next state in terms of production.
The cardamom is native to India & Indonesia and grown in tropical & sub-tropical climate zones.
Cardamom is of the ginger family known as ‘Elettaria Cardamomum– Green Cardamom’.
Cardamom has 3 varieties
- Black Cardamom
- Green Cardamom
- White Cardamom
Is broadly grouped into two categories
- Small Cardamom (Chhota Elaichi) or True Cardamom.
- Large cardamom (Bara Elaichi.)
Cardamom is the ‘Spice Queen’ and is an expensive spice ranked after Saffron & Vanilla spices.
